Dr. Thomas C. Turner has strived to provide the Permian Basin with quality surgical eye care for more than a quarter-century. Originally from Alabama, Dr. Turner graduated with honors from the University of Texas in Austin and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He served his internship at the University of California in Los Angeles and was a resident in ophthalmology at the prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California in Los Angeles, which is consistently rated as one of the top eye surgery hospitals in the United States.
Dr. Turner is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is an active member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is licensed to practice medicine by both the Texas and New Mexico State Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Turner has personally performed more than 20,000 eye surgery procedures since establishing practice in the Permian Basin in the early 1980’s.
He has also had LASIK surgery himself.
In the fall of 2003, Dr. Turner began performing CustomVue® LASIK and is now the most experienced CustomVue® LASIK surgeon in the region. In June of 2007, Dr. Turner performed the first Blade-Free LASIK procedure in the Permian Basin using IntraLase® technology. Since that time, he has performed more Blade-Free CustomVue LASIK procedures (iLASIK®) than all other surgeons in the Permian Basin combined. In 2007, he was named a LaserVision® Top 50 Surgeon for achieving excellence in LASIK and refractive surgery. He also received the honor of Top 100 Surgeon from LaserVision® in both 2005 and 2006.
Dr. Turner also specializes in cataract surgery, having performed over 12,000 cataract procedures, making him one of the most experienced cataract surgeons in the Permian Basin.
In addition to offering his patients the most advanced methods of laser vision correction available today, Dr. Turner is also certified to implant several different multifocal or accommodating intraocular lenses, including the TECNIS® Multifocal lens. Dr. Turner was the first surgeon in the Permian Basin to offer his patients the benefits of the Crystalens®, an FDA-approved lens implant that offers patients a range of both distance and near vision after their cataract surgery. Dr. Turner has offices in both Midland and Odessa, along with ambulatory surgery centers located in each city as well.
